Chef Johnny Morgano is an “almost Nashville native.” He was born in Kings Park, New York, and raised in Nashville, where his passion for food began early. The children’s book Stone Soup had him microwaving a random assortment of vegetables. Soon enough, he was cooking family dinners in high school - both everyday meals and special celebrations. Johnny was always drawn to the kitchen.
In college, he continuously worked as a server and his homemade guacamole single-handedly allowed him to pass Spainish 211/212 Intensive Course. This is where he launched the original version of “The Johnny Meal Plan”—a weekly meal prep service for roommates and friends.
As he entered the real world, thoughts of opening a personal chef service were in his mind, but he was going to try and “use” his degree first. After years of customer service and logistics roles (and many workplace, first place potluck finishes), he began entering food competitions in Nashville. He won 6th place in the 2015 Nashville Hot Wing Festival and soon after, agreed to be part owner and Chef of the food truck, My Little Pierogi. As Chef of My Little Pierogi, Johnny was responsible for menu development and handcrafted every dish - all while maintaining 5 stars in reviews.
Now, Chef Johnny has launched The Southern Italian—a personal chef service for those who appreciate exceptional food and warm, reliable service. Rooted in Italian tradition and Southern charm, The Southern Italian is all about making life easier—and more delicious—for those who want to eat well without the stress.
Chef Johnny is married to his wife, Michelle (and can still recall the first pierogi he made at her apartment in East Nashville)! He has three children who are often his most discerning taste testers (and critics)! And no, he is not full blooded Italian. Like many Italian men in New York circa 1950 his Grandfathers preferred Irish women. Chef Johnny’s red hair and freckles are the result.
